Integrated Stove Knobs: Streamlined Elegance in Contemporary Kitchens
One of my favorite trends in contemporary kitchens is the integration of stove knobs mounted directly onto the front cabinet panels, rather than on the appliance itself. This design choice creates a streamlined and clean appearance, while also contributing to a bespoke look that adds a touch of personalized luxury. It’s important to note that this design trend is only applicable to gas (and sometimes electric or induction, if the controls aren’t digital) cooktops, and not to range-tops.
Pacific Heights Contemporary by Catherine Kwong
The custom cabinetry in this kitchen, designed by Catherine Kwong in collaboration with Architect John Maniscalco, exemplifies a clean-lined look, meticulously devoid of clutter. The cabinetry seamlessly integrates two fridges and a built-in espresso machine, maintaining a cohesive and polished aesthetic. Elevating the design further, Kwong and Maniscalco introduced integrated stove knobs, mounted directly to the front cabinet panel. This innovative feature not only enhances the kitchen’s streamlined appearance but also contributes to its functional elegance, embodying the epitome of contemporary kitchen design.

Hickson Residence by MRDK
This kitchen design by MRDK boasts several unique features despite its relatively modest size. To conceal clutter, a travertine backsplash ingeniously slides into a pocket opening, revealing access to a coffee and wine station. Additionally, a door cleverly disguised as cabinetry opens to provide a passthrough to a connected, larger pantry area. The finishing touch is the integration of stove knobs inset into a thick slab of travertine, beautifully coordinating with the large travertine-clad sculptural island. This design not only maximizes functionality but also enhances the kitchen’s sleek and sophisticated aesthetic.
